As a user of LYCON products in the past, I was really intrigued to try this at-home tanning mousse. LYCON is a salon-quality brand so I was really excited to give this a go. This tanning mousse comes in a pump applicator and it is suggested that you apply it with a tanning applicator mitt. It says on the packaging that for a lighter tan you can leave it on for a minimum of 1 hour and for a darker tan you can leave it on up to 4 hours before taking a shower. Supposedly, the tan then proceeds to develop for up to 12+ hours. A relatively minor critique straight away is that I don’t know why this is marketed as a ‘rapid tan’ product if the tan develops for 12 hours from the time you rinse it off… Seems like a bit of a prolonged period to me. Similar to that of overnight developing tan products. Yes, you can wash it off as little as an hour after application but to see the full result you still have to wait more or less until the next day. The good side of this though is that you can apply it slightly before bedtime, have a quick rinse and then go to sleep knowing your sheets won’t be stained. When applying this product, I used a standard tanning mitt and the product went on pretty smoothly. I ensured to rub in the product thoroughly to ensure no streaks occurred. I will say that when you rub it in, the colour of the initial bronzing guide is quite light, so you need to pay close attention to wear you are applying to make sure that you don’t overlap or miss any areas. I am extremely pale, so the colour had enough contrast for me to see it; though if you are already naturally tanned it may be harder to identify where you have applied. The smell is pretty typical of fake tan. It started off quite subtle on initial application but as the developing time went on it got progressively stronger in scent. I waited for the suggested (darker tan) time of 4 hours before washing it off and at that stage the tan appeared extremely light and natural, like a sun-kissed glow. I then went to sleep. After waking up and after the further 12 hours of developing time, I noticed that the tan was indeed darker. Not too dark though, still extremely natural looking like a good fake tan should be. I honestly really love the colour. It’s not too dramatic but not super light either, it’s just right. No obvious streaking or application errors either which is a big win! The only minor complaint I had was that it appeared to sink into my hair follicles a little, so if you look up close you can see tiny specks of tan. That being said, it didn’t appear to cling to any dry skin or pimples that I had so overall the aspect of it clinging to my follicles doesn’t bother me too much as you can only see this upon close inspection. I can also say that my skin feels very nourished, this is probably thanks to the Vitamin E and Aloe Vera in the product. I didn't even feel the need to moisturise! Overall, I had a really good experience with this tan and I am keen to give it another go when summer gets closer!
