For centuries, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have harnessed the power of Tea-Tree Oil to treat wounds, insect bites, bacterial infections, and even to treat viral illnesses - and now the rest of the world is finally catching on.

Tea-Tree Oil has been used for many thousands of years, traditionally as an antiseptic (germ killer) and in traditional herbal medicine. The oil comes from the leaves of the tea tree plant (Melaleuca alternifolia), a small tree native to Australia that grows in swampy conditions along Australia’s east coast and on nearby islands.

Tea-Tree Oil in Skincare

In skincare, Tea-Tree Oil has many benefits. It has anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant qualities and so may assist in some skin conditions.

Skincare containing Tea-Tree Oil may assist in treating some acne outbreaks due to it’s anti-bacterial properties and its reported ability to boost white bloods cells. It’s also said to be able to reduce the appearance of sunspots in some people.

It has even been reported to decrease some allergic skin reactions such as dermatitis however studies are still inconclusive. When using Tea-Tree Oil, it’s recommended not to use it undiluted.
